“Gurukul” is designed to promote, instill, and foster Indian culture in children of ages 3 and above. The program includes activities such as prayers, teachings of Indian culture, studies of values from the Indian epics Mahabharata, Ramayana and exposure to Hitopadesha, Panchatantra etc. The children will also participate in local community activities. The classes will be facilitated in English. We have successfully completed four years of classes at the Shri Mandir.
As Asian Indian parents in the US, we have a responsibility to pass along the rich heritage that we have been fortunate enough to inherit. Shri Mandir Gurukul will consist of a community of parents collaborating to provide our children with a nurturing environment that helps them grow up to be proud of their heritage.
This year we will be exploring a varied curriculum with fun activities ,quizzes, exploration , puzzles and class projects to learn . Parent involvement and support is essential and we plan on making this a great experience with games pitting the kids knowledge against the adults ! It promises to be an exciting year ahead.
We will also be administering two fun quiz style tests to help the kids understand and assimilate the material more thoroughly.
We need two young adults 14 years and up to 20 years old who would like to volunteer their time to work on projects with the kids during class time.
Shri Mandir is a nonprofit organization, and we would be happy to sign and vouch for the volunteer hours spent helping the classes.
